Hello
and Welcome to the Classic Ragtime Society of Indiana Website
Our
group is made up of people of all ages and backgrounds who enjoy classic
and contemporary ragtime music. You need not be a musician to join
our Society. You only need to enjoy listening to ragtime music and
learning its' history with like minded people. We meet six times a
year to enjoy programs performed mostly by professional pianists and
occasionally by instrumental groups. Information is usually shared
about the compositions and composers of the pieces performed. Occasional
listening sessions are held in our homes and we sometimes offer a
special concert featuring well-known ragtime artists. We also host
an annual weekend ragtime festival each August featuring pianists,
instrumental groups, seminars and vintage dance.
Ragtime
is truly authentic American music which is not generally recognized
as such. We regard it as the root from which developed boogie woogie,
stride, blues and jazz.
Current members of the Classic Ragtime Society Board are: President: Bob Weller; 1st V.P.: James Bennett; 2nd V.P: James Dahlberg; Secretary: Sylvia Brunner; Treasurer: John Gray. Board members are: James Pyle, Robert Brunner, William Engle, John Bitter. Historian: Josephine Beeler. Immediate past president is Rob Schlegel.
